This series of audio recordings relates to the taking of the census; training of enumerators for the census; and related issues like the agricultural census, census of housing and population and vital statistics. In addition, there are Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and interviews of sports figures and celebrities including: Martina Navratilova, Sugar Ray Leonard, Roger Staubach, Elvin Hayes, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Frank Corral, Efrem Herrera, Luis Tiant, Franco Harris, Lou Brock, George Takei, and Vincent Barabba. Also included are PSAs by Rosalynn Carter, a PSA for Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander ethnicity, and audio recordings of the 1980 Census Users Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. The most recent recording (1990) relates to the impact of alternative family structures among Black Americans on census inclusions.

George Takei is an American actor, author, and activist. He is best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in the television series Star Trek. In 1942, the Takei family was forced to live in the converted horse stables of Santa Anita Park before being sent to the Rohwer War Relocation Center for internment in Rohwer, Arkansas.
